but I wonder why they'd mess-up AVCHD which (believe it or not) is a joint standard by Panasonic and Sony - so it should be their first inclusion. I presume you were well-aware of any limitations in the past.

You'd think: Letter-writing, Stills/graphics, movie-editing and 3D-gaming would give quite different price-points, demands and capabilities. and surprisingly there are no "Standards" for a given OS.
PINNACLE STUDIO 20 ULTIMATE INTERNAL EXPORT ERROR SOFTWARE
Issues can be down to the lack of PCs used by the Mfr of Software - they cannot know all the OS versions and differing hardware. All reads like it's very annoying - and I'm surprised it's not more widely known as it appears. In addition, there is no clear statement in the on-line Specifications and/or Promotional Material to indicate that this long standing 5.1 surround sound function for many years, is not available on PS23. This begs the question: What is the point of having surround sound editing (as per the enclosed) if you can’t produce a disc with the final file? However, this is simply not true, as this important export feature has been deleted on PS23 and therefore, a surround sound DVD (or Blue Ray) disc cannot be produced via this version of Studio. The most important final and crystal clear statement on page 186 is that a DVD disc can be produced with 5.1 surround sound.

Even more annoying is when the previously purchased Studio 20 BD Plug-in is activated, it clearly states that it is 'enabled', when it is not.įailure to produce a DVD (or BD) disc with 5.1 surround sound : Full surround sound editing facilities are provided (as previous versions) and the User Manual goes through this in detail. Inaccurate and misleading User Manual: Two issues here:Ĭharging customers again for a previously purchased Blue Ray add-on: This is not acceptable when the User Manual clearly states on page 254: “You can restore purchases that you have made through Pinnacle Studio”, and the running software also indicates that this can be done. Which is not really true, as when PS23 is installed on Win 7 or 8, it is not compatible with the audio on the most widely used consumer HD camcorder file format (AVCHD)!! This is a vital restriction and should have been clearly stated under ‘Operating System’ and not as an obscure hidden footnote under ‘Export Formats’. It was only recently that I found that this problem was more likely to be due to misleading System Requirements: Where, under ‘Operating System’, it states that PS23 is compatible with Win 7, 8 and 10. Please note that this completely prevented me from doing any sort PS23 evaluation inside any ‘Trial’ period (which as a long term customer, is something that I shouldn’t need anyway!). Misleading System Requirements: From the start I had a major issue using it on my Win 7 computer: No sound and, as I was unable to fix this after two days (and thought this was due to an incompatibility with my sound card), I thought it best to wait until my new Win 10 computer arrived mid-December. Everything seemed OK, but unfortunately, the reality was somewhat different:

But before purchasing new software, I always check the spec, promotional info and, in particular, download and study the User Manual, to ensure the software will meet my needs. So when I received a special offer for version 23 last November, I decided it was time to upgrade, particularly as I was about to purchase a new editing computer to replace my 2011 Win 7 computer. My last Pinnacle Studio purchase was version 20 in 2016 and I use it for editing AVCHD files to produce Blue Ray and DVD discs with DD 5.1 audio.
